IST is the largest and most reputed school of Engineering, Science and Technology and Architecture in Portugal and a member of CLUSTER, attracting the top students in the country in the STEM area. IST aims to contribute to the development of society, promoting and sharing excellence in higher education in the fields of Architecture, Engineering, Science and Technology. Técnico offers Bachelor, Master and PhD programmes, lifelong training and develops Research, Development and Innovation (RD&I) activities, which are essential to provide an education based on the top international standards. The Group for Lasers and Plasmas (GoLP), the key team at IST involved in IMPULSE, is part of the Institute for Plasmas and Nuclear Fusion, an Associated Laboratory – a status given by the Portuguese Ministry of Science to the top research units of high strategic relevance to the country. GoLP manages the Laboratory for Intense Lasers and the VOXEL Lab, both are state-of-the-art university scale CPA laser laboratories. Additionally, GoLP research activities are supported by several computational facilities and software frameworks for extreme light studies.
